Pleasure Dome and Splice This! are pleased to present the Canadian premiere of Rémi Lange’s Omelette au beurre (super 8 presented on 16 mm, 77:00 min., 1998). Lange’s legendary “diary’ film, an underground favorite in France – and now in the collection of the George Pompidou Centre of Modern Art in Paris – is a coming-out film like no other. Equipped with a super 8 sound camera, Lange comes out to his extended family on film. Shot over a period of four years, things take an interesting turn when Lange discovers a skeleton in the family closet. Omelette is a deeply personal voyage of discovery that deals with happiness, sadness, love, sex, aging, life, death, family and friends. Early in the film, Lange professes a “perverse desire to film badly” – with beautiful results. This screening is the world premiere of a new 16mm print lovingly transferred from the original super 8 and subtitled in English.
At Toronto’s 2003 Inside Out festival, Lange presented his first narrative feature, Tarik El Hob, which was affectionately declared the “Best Gay Film from France” by John Bentley Mays of The Globe and Mail.
