“Closing the TIFF series ‘From Ecstasy To Rapture: 50 Years of the Other Spanish Cinema’ Pleasure Dome and TIFF Cinematheque present Iván Zulueta’s underground masterpiece Arrebato (Rapture, 1980, 35mm, 105 min.), a cult film in Spanish cinema history, recently restored and subtitled in English. Also known as Pedro Almodóvar’s poster designer, Zulueta (who died in 2009) was an enfant terrible whose tenuous art-making culminated in this chillingly hypnotic full-length film, which hovers on the edge of extinction and is charged with an eerie mysticism. Almodóvar lends his voice to a female character but the sensibility wholly belongs to Zulueta, who combined many of the techniques he had used in his Super 8 shorts.” Andréa Picard, TIFF Cinematheque
