Part of Fall 2010

The work of intermedia artist Marc Couroux lives in and around various perceptual aporias, where paradoxical dislocations of matter flip focus to the unchartered territory between attention and distraction, sense and nonsense, a zone in which objects become processes, surfaces yield to sediment, where radical duration extends conventions beyond intended function.

The Following, Episode 1 (“Modified Limited Hangout”, with special guest star Robert Webber) (video 2009), a one-hour hall of mirrors (with commercials), emerges out of a collapse of 18 formulaic 1970s TV dramas, each featuring noted character actor Robert Webber ventriloquized into distinct visual and acoustic spaces, caught in a perpetual oscillation between the local singularity and the deus ex machina of structure. Executive Summary (video 2009) crisscrosses the porous boundaries between signal and noise, in a blowback of soundbyte proportions destined to wrest art away from communicative exigencies while troping on them.

Supplementing these titles will be a new sound-image work created especially for Pleasure Dome, performing vagrant trajectories through reclaimed material long ago dropped down the proverbial memory hole.
