Part of Fall 2002
Another cold December is upon us, so consider this an invitation: let’s gather around the oil drums to keep warm and keep company against the cold grey air. Join us for a smoke or two inside Cinecycle and watch the flickering light show; discover images as they were first seen, as dancing shadows on the wall.
From the ashes of Pompeii to the digital fire of today, we’ll be exploring the aesthetics of smoke, fire and light. Smouldering works by the likes of Stan Brakhage, Peter Hutton, Tasman Richardson, Keith Sanborn and Izabella Pruska-Oldenhof will quietly entertain us until we clear the chairs and watch Anthony McCall’s film performance work, Line Describing a Cone, a play of light dancing all around us on the haze we created&lrquo;¦definitely a smoking event!
