Call for PD Board of Directors

Pleasure Dome (PD) is committed to year-round experimental media arts screening programs and is seeking dynamic and dedicated Board of Director members to help. Yes, we require a curatorial passion for expanded presentation, but also seek Board of Director members with qualifications in community engagement, comms/design/marketing, editing and publishing, fundraising, and those with financial and legal expertise. PD is governed by a working board which operates as a programming collective, and is prominently (though not exclusively) made up of practicing experimental media artists. Collectively, the board provides governance and develops a strategic vision for the organization with input from the Operations and Development Manager. Each member is expected to attend monthly meetings, undertake work collaboratively with staff between meetings, and commit to serving a two-year term. Ideal candidates will develop and implement strategies that support our mandate and attract new audience members while continuing our twenty-nine (29) year history of programming work others overlook: work that is too queer, too political, too strange, and too marginal. PD is strongly committed to fostering diversity within our community and to recruiting diverse members of the Board. We welcome those who would contribute to furthering this mission, including, but not limited to: women, visible and invisible minorities, First Nations and Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons across the spectrum of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Tasks and responsibilities:

-Attend regular (monthly) meetings.
-Participate in the development of the mission, vision, and goals for the organization.
-Research programming, and provide hands-on support for the planning and execution of events.
-Perform Human Resources duties and support staff needs.
-Maintain effective partnerships and communication with the community, the organization’s members, and stakeholders.
-Maintain fiscal responsibility, including fundraising, managing income, and approving and monitoring annual budgets.
-Ensure transparency in all communication to members, stakeholders, and the public.
-Evaluate the organization’s work in relation to the strategic plan.
-Evaluate the work of the board of directors, ensuring continuous renewal of the board, and plan for the succession and diversity of the board.
-Must adhere to Pleasure Dome’s other policies. This may include an anti-discrimination Policy and Human Resources Policy and any other relevant Pleasure Dome Organizational Policies.

NB: Board members are volunteers and therefore cannot be financially compensated for their work, or exhibit with Pleasure Dome while serving their Board term.

We invite you to contribute to Pleasure Dome’s success by sending a statement of interest along with your CV in one PDF document to with the subject line “PD Board Application 2019” by Wed., Jan. 30, 2019.
