Part of Winter 1999

Culled from the New York underground, this sensational double bill features recent video by the prolific sexual genderist Diane Bonder and early Super 8 by the mistress of New York’s Cinema of Transgression, Tessa Hughes-Freeland. The night kicks off with three collaborative Super 8 films (shown on video) by Hughes-Freeland: Playboy Voodoo (1991) with Ela Troyano, a sexy mellifluous film with music by John Zorn; Dirty (1993), a raunchy melodrama chronicling the events of an alcoholic debutante, made with Annabelle Lee; and Nymphomania (1994) with Holly Adams, a sophisticated diabolical tale of a wood nymph frolicking and fucking in the forest.

The second half of the evening features work by Diane Bonder including the Canadian premiere of The Physics of Love (1998), an intricately crafted video exploring domestic labour, disease, violence, desire, and the laws of science; Parolé (1993), dedicated to Gerta Ward, Å“an invert, cross dresser, lunatic and murderer; Dangerous When Wet (1992), the fear and pleasure of a woman’s first sexual experience; and Stick Figures (1992), a short Super 8 dealing with homophobia
