Border Crossings. Dream Landscapes. Historical Presents. Appropriate Technologies. The tapes at the Tariagsuk Video Centre, located in the Inuit village of Igloolik, serve as travelogues for tomorrow where the present is in joyful play with the past and an openness to multiplicity in experience is celebrated. These videos confront ‘Southern’ notions of ‘modern’ and ‘primitive’, low-tech and high-tech, replacing them with a confusion in boundaries that resists categorization. The program will feature tapes produced collectively and by individual artists as well as excerpts from a multi-country video correspondence project and highlights from the Centre’s most recent ‘Home Video Contest’.
